General Functions:  

As a consequence of enhanced surveillance along borders with Turkey (Bulgaria-Turkey and Greece-Turkey) the main migration flows from Turkey towards the EU are now taking place via the Mediterranean Sea route. Since September 2015, IOM enhanced its presence in Izmir, Çeşme, Dikili and Küçükkuyu and is providing humanitarian support for migrants and refugees rescued at sea including NFI, food and PSS.

 

Under the overall supervision of Emergency coordinator and the direct supervision of the Head of Sub Office in İzmir, the incumbent will have following responsibilities:

 

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Provide social support to migrants and refugees rescued at sea in TCG Kuşadası premises including awareness raising on rights, access to services, regulations and other relevant topics.
  2. Provide psychosocial first aid to the migrants and refugees as and when needed
  3. Identify cases that requires special assistance and refer them to IOM’s various humanitarian activities or to appropriate organizations or government authorities for assistance
  4. Identify and analyze the families/individual demand and needs refer as required
  5. Assist in preparing materials needed for recreational and activities for children in TCG premises.
  6. Prepare reports on implemented activities and submit to emergency assistant on weekly basis
  7. Participate in protection working groups and raise any social issue related to migrants and refugees
  8. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Sub Office Izmir.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

Education:

  • High school diploma from an accredited academic institution, with five years of relevant experience; or, Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Social Work or any related fields from an accredited academic institution, with three years of relevant professional experience.

 

Experience

  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
  • Ability to summarize disparate information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
  • Having experience on implementing emergency/humanitarian project is an asset
  • Being able to travel
  • Proven analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Good level of computer literacy.
  • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, other national / international institutions
  • Good level of computer literacy.

 

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and Turkish is required.
  • Working knowledge of Arabic, Farsi and French is advantageous.
