The Scholars and Internship Specialist will be leading the development of TIYYD’s newest initiative in support of refugee undergraduate university students. S/he will be responsible for co-leading program design and implementation of program activities aimed at coaching and mentoring students in their field, in pursuit of fair employee opportunities post-graduation

ABOUT KARAM HOUSE

Karam House is an innovative workspace for Syrian refugee teens, in Istanbul and Reyhanli, Turkey, which defy traditional approaches to refugee education. At Karam Houses, hundreds of Syrian refugee teens learn through access to technology (maker spaces, internet, computers), expert mentorship (including Syrians refugee architects and engineers), and a sophisticated design-based curriculum (developed by MIT grads) that teaches youth how to build their ideas and their community. We think about refugees and humanitarian aid differently and so we do things differently. We believe in investing deeply in communities affected by conflict.

What We’re Looking For: The Essentials

  • Full professional proficiency in Turkish and English, Arabic is an asset
  • Proven work experience as a Trainer.
  • Proven ability to complete full training cycle (assess needs, plan, develop, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate)
  • Experience with various training methods including, coaching, mentorship, and e-learning.
  • Turkish citizen or Istanbul Turkish Residency Permit Holder

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Planning:

  • Co-develop pilot project with Scholarship Manager
  • Determine key indicators and evaluation tools for program.
  • Create selection criteria process for student participation in the program On-going follow up with the interns regarding their development and growth within the internship sites
  • Communicate with students’ advisors to continuously identify training needs and knowledge gaps among our high school students.
  • Map out professional development workshop plans and schedules
  • Select appropriate methods or activities to build students’ professional development capacity (simulations, mentoring, courses, etc).

Research and Partnership Development:

  • Establish partnership framework/agreements with partners ensuring accountability and monitoring mechanisms in place.
  • Research local organizations/companies for possible program partnerships Initiate and maintain partnerships for the pilot internship program

Training and Mentorship:

  • Actively develop content on professional development workshops in accordance with ongoing trends of the professional job market, while also catering it to the dynamic context of the refugee community in Turkey.
  • Workshops should be developed to be delivered in person, online or blended.
  • Coach and advise interns through their professional development.
  • Deliver professional development workshops to undergraduate university students.
  • Organize seminars with field experts, and community building panels/gatherings for our community of scholarship recipients.
  • Select appropriate methods or activities to build students’ professional development capacity (simulations, mentoring, courses, etc).
  • **Conduct TOT (training of trainers) sessions for basic subject matters

Reporting and Documentation

  • Reporting on regular basis to the Scholars manager
  • Preparing and archiving the needed paperwork for workshops and training sessions as needed.

Other tasks as may be assigned by the Scholarship Program Manager

REPORTS TO: Scholarship Program Manager

LOCATION: ;Eyüpsultan, Istanbul, Turkey

HOURS: Full-time - 40 hours per week Saturday - Wednesday

COMPENSATION: Based on the candidate's level of experience, qualifications, and the organization's salary scale in Turkish Lira.

We are a Syrian-led organisation founded in 2007. We have been supporting Syrian communities in Syria, Turkey, Jordan, and the US since 2011. We've developed various innovative education projects including community innovation centers (Karam House) for refugee teens in Turkey and a higher education scholarship program for refugee youth, as well as have sustainable development and smart aid projects to address the evolving obstacles that Syrians face.
We have built two Karam Houses, innovative workspaces for Syrian refugee teens, in Istanbul and Reyhanli, Turkey, which take on new innovative approaches to refugee education and learning. At Karam Houses, hundreds of Syrian refugee teens learn through access to cutting-edge technology (maker spaces, internet, computers), expert mentorship, and a sophisticated studio design-based curriculum to build their ideas and inspire their community.
We are on a mission to grow 10,000 Leaders by 2028.
