About Concern: Concern Worldwide is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organization dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries. Job Purpose: The Psychosocial Support (PSS) Facilitator will be responsible for facilitating PSS activities for children and youth, preparing PSS materials suitable for the targeted age group and implementing awareness sessions for caregivers in Concern’s Protection Hubs. The PSS Facilitators need to have knowledge and practical skills to carry out focused psychosocial support activities with children at high risk of vulnerability. Staff in the Protection Hub implement PSS programming for children as well as provide protection services for the surrounding community.

 

Psychosocial Support Facilitators are managed by the Team Leader in the Birecik Protection Hub. Psychosocial Support Facilitators are responsible for creating a safe environment for children to participate in PSS activities, ensuring regular attendance and prioritizing children’s personal resilience and psychosocial wellbeing.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare daily plans prior to every PSS session in line with the existing PSS curriculum and activity bank; prepare appropriate materials and/or visual aids in advance of the session.
  • In collaboration with other PSS facilitators in the Hub, deliver PSS sessions to targeted age groups; facilitate engaging sessions that encourage children’s active participation and personal development.
  • Positively interact with children, communicate clearly, so they feel safe and respected at all times, and encourage them to express their emotions and needs.
  • Ensure inclusive participation by following an age- and gender- sensitive approach.
  • Follow up on the students’ wellbeing, attendance and specific needs; refer children and families to Concern’s Protection team when further specialized support is necessary.
  • Report on the number of students, achievements, and new registration requests; update the Team Leader and PSS technical team on any issues, challenges or gaps in implementation.
  • Contact children and families regarding any updates and changes in PSS or Caregiver Engagement schedule and implementation.
  • Reach out to families of out-of-school children to address barriers to education and liaise with managers of educational institutions (TECs, TPS) to facilitate student enrolment in formal education opportunities
  • Facilitate seminars for parents and caregivers in line with existing Caregiver Engagement curriculum.
  • Collaborate closely with MEAL team to monitor activities with existing PSS and Caregiver Engagement monitoring tools and use PSS selection criteria effectively.

 

Other tasks

  • Contribute to organisational accountability initiatives, including overseeing the roll out of commitments of Concern under the HAP (Humanitarian Accountability Partnership).
  • Support and promote the standards outlined in the Programme Participant Protection Policy and Concern Code of Conduct to their team, beneficiaries, and be committed to providing a safe working environment.
  • Support emergency response programming for Concern as and when requested.

 

Person Specification

 

Minimum Education, Qualifications & Experience Required: 

  • Degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology or related field
  • 1 year of experience facilitating PSS activities for children and youth affected by crisis
  • Native fluency in Turkish and/or Arabic
  • Experience working with children affected by crisis and conflict
  • Basic understanding of child development and child protection
  • Experience of facilitating creative art, music and recreational activities with children
  • Excellent communication skills with children, youth and adults, including active listening skills
