Job Summary

As psychologists, identifying and providing mental health and psychosocial support needs for the benefit of target groups are key tasks. Personnel who will provide MHPSS service adapted according to the priorities determined by IASC guidelines should pay particular attention to serving with dignity and ethical principles. Responsible for the implementation, monitoring and reporting of MHPSS activities, the Psychologist will ensure that performance tools are available within the scope of the service to ensure implementation of the programs considering the cultural context in the MHPSS area for vulnerable groups.

Within the scope of MHPSS interventions, the psychologist not only conducts individual interviews, but also takes part in the preparation, implementation and reporting of psychosocial support activities and other MHPSS-based activities.

Within the scope of MHPSS activities, members of profession will work on some compulsive life events and social skills, as well as on various disorders defined in the DSM 5 manual. Apart from individual counselling and helping beneficiaries’ to cope with their problems, psychologists are responsible for assessing the needs of beneficiaries using psychometric tests and interview techniques. Based on these assessments, psychologists will then create an intervention plan for individuals.

Psychologists are also responsible for keeping records, monitoring service users' progress, and reporting to the Team Leader, Field Officer, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Officer and Project Manager.


 Scope of Work and Basic Job Duties:


The psychologist will be responsible for the tasks detailed below, within the authority and responsibility delegated to her/him:

• To evaluate the needs of the beneficiaries registered to the Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support Program services,

• To support the preparation of modules to be used in group sessions,

• Provide and support awareness raising and psychoeducation to groups, both at the center and as part of outreach activities,

• To provide individual sessions in accordance with ethical principles within the scope of evaluations or requests in the light of appropriate psychotherapy schools, to follow up and report until the closure (Clients will be appointed according to the current experience level and specialized training of psychologists),

• Organizing individual (one-to-one) counseling or group counseling sessions, programs, and making the relevant MHPSS needs assessment, preparing and implementing an intervention plan, when necessary and appropriate, within the field office or home visits,

• Designing and coordinating programs to meet the specific needs of extra-vulnerable groups (persons affected and at risk of Gender-Based Violence, Persons with Disabilities and Caregivers of Persons with Disabilities),

• To make internal and external referrals to the necessary authorities when required,

• To work with coordination of other units within the organization,

• If necessary, to meet the program needs of other units within the scope of MHPSS,

• Supporting team management in developing a weekly program for PSS Assistants,

• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports on the number and identification of cases by age and gender, using the provided spreadsheet program and collection tools,

• To keep a record of the attendance and pre-post test of the sessions given in the program files,

•Contribute to Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support ( MHPSS ) analysis, research and documentation activities,

•Coordinate Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support  (MHPSS ) inputs for reports, case studies and other communications materials, in collaboration with the Communications Team,

•Participating in training, supervision and team meetings,

•Ensure data entry of the all activities conducted and supervised by PSS staff,

• Maintaining individual cases for each individual served, including detailed descriptions of the services provided,

•Accompany children and families to external agencies to facilitate access to service provisions,

•Maintain contact with families and working and disseminate information, materials and NFI’s as and when required,

•Builds and maintains effective relationships, with their team, colleagues, Members and external partners and supporters,

•Follow up on cases referred to national mental health service providers,

•Ensure Child Safeguarding standards are understood and met by Field staff and partners, in collaboration with the Focal Point, and program teams,

•In case of temporary/permanently leave situation, Handover Report will be filled out and submitted to the relevant departments,

•Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop YSYD programs.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

• Having a bachelor's degree in psychology or psychological counseling,

• Having at least 1 year of experience with vulnerable groups,

• Having at least 2 years of field experience in a multicultural environment,

• Having experience of working with individuals affected from Gender-Based Violence,

• Having experience working in case management, individual and group sessions,

• Having experience of working in a team,

• Ability to work in coordination within a team structure, to cope with a flexible and stressful workload, and to work with limited resources,

• Strong communication skills,

• Ability to establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment,

• Strong problem solving, coping with stress, communication, time management, organization and facilitation skills,

• Being flexible and sensitive,

• Being open to experiences.

Language Skills: Turkish language skill is needed. Arabic and English language skills are asset.

Computer Skills: Microsoft Office, Zoom, Skype and Google tools



Additional Responsibilities:

· From time to time, the relevant position holder may be asked to perform additional duties at a reasonable level for works and transactions in the humanitarian field, in line with their skills and experience level.
