Position Summary.

The PSS Officer will work closely with  the PSS Team in Amman on implementing and supporting the field teams in the PSS under the GBV and CP program in NWS. The position will play a key role in building the team capacity and supervise closely the quality of PSS services provided and support the program at the protection centers  for a culture and practice of high-quality GBV/CP programming in emergencies.. The PSS Officer  will be responsible initially to support the baseline assessment and capacity building module of the PSS programme, followed by the overall planning, implementation, and management of future activities. The PSS Officer will ensure that the activities are implemented according to the plan in an appropriate, relevant, effective, timely, coordinated, and complementary manner. The PSS Officer will reporting directly to the Protection Manger in NWS and will be working closely with PSS team based in Amman and the program team both in NWS and GZT.

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

The PSS Officer will work closely with the PSS team based in Amman to conduct the following :

PSS activities implementation :

  • Ensure and follow up with  the field-based teams to plan and conduct individual and group counseling sessions/ psychosocial first aid (PFA) and Psychoeducation sessions with culturally, age tailored approach.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions/and PFA (remotely) when needed and in coordination with the PSS Team in Amman.
  • Ensure and follow up with  the field-based team to conduct community-based psychosocial education of selected topics.
  • Ensure and follow up with the  field-based team to rais awareness regarding the availability of mental health, psychosocial support, and protection services.
  • Ensure that  the field-based team is referring cases for more specialized case management services.
  • Shar with the protection coordinator work-schedule for the activities and ensure the schedule is followed by the field-based teams through regular follow up.
  • Regularly check with the field-based teams to ensure that materials and facilities are fully functioning and ready to provide activities (logistically, capacity) and clos work with program to provide inputs to cover the needs for the planned activities.

Capacity building :

  • Ensure planning and participate in capacity building trainings based on the need.
  • With close coordination with the PSS team in Amman , Create and conduct well-being activities plan to protect the team from burnout and support staff care strategies. Support community health workers and health teams in enhancing the internal referral system as well as the building the needed counselling skills for a survivor centered approach
  • Supervising and coaching the PSS field-based staff remotely (and in person where possible) in addition to monitoring the PSS activities.
  • Support the field-based teams in ensuring that other RI sectors (including health) in the field are efficiently and confidentially referring cases to the team based on selected criteria.

 

Reporting, Documentation  and Data analysis :

  • Ensure correct data entry by the field team and work on analysis of the PSS activities on weekly and monthly basis.
  • Ensure PSS staff maintain and complete confidential e-case files to document client interaction and interventions using the relevant tools.
  • Provide  weekly and monthly reports to the line manger to provide information on activities conducted, topics discussed, challenges faced and target achieved with disaggregated data.

Coordination

  • Coordination with Protection Program senior officers (Syria) for any PSS activities to take place in WGSSs and catchment areas of WGSSs or through Health facilities.
  • Representing RI in coordination bodies when requested.

  • Uphold and promote RI’s commitment to ensuring the safeguarding and safety of the vulnerable communities we serve.
  • Consistent with RI’s safeguarding and protection policies, ensure all people who come into contact with Relief International are as safe as possible.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

 

This position will require a demonstrated ability to achieve results in a demanding and fast paced environment.

 

  • Degree psychology , social work , or related field with a minimum of 2 years experience particularly in Counselling Psychology or Social work.
  • Strong understanding of protection issues including child protection and gender-based violence
  • Ability to discuss sensitive issues with respect and empathy including ability to provide basic Psychological First Aid services
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability and experience to effectively provide training on PSS/PFA
  • Experience in the Syrian context and emergency PSS in conflict settings
  • Knowledge of global MHPSS guidelines and best practices and MHPSS approaches/tools in low resource and humanitarian contexts
  • Must be capable of working both individually and as part of a team.
  • Strong sense of personal integrity and understanding of confidentiality and ethics
  • Organized and able to independently manage multiple tasks under strict deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange, Windows operating systems
