ROLE PURPOSE: 

Under the direct supervision of the CP&MHPSS Officer (and with technical support from the MHPSS Technical Advisor and Specialist), the PSS Facilitator be responsible for organizing psychosocial support activities for children, adolescents, caregivers and families as part of integrated community-based MHPSS programming in the earthquake response in Gaziantep. The PSS Officer will be part of delivering an evidence-based, psychosocial, developmental and multi-leveled approach, in line with global and regional standards. 

 

The PSS Facilitator will be responsible for delivering community-based MHPSS activities and structured approaches which may include both static and mobile delivery of services.  In close cooperation and coordination with MHPSS Officer, the PSS facilitator will ensure that activities are implemented according to technical design and with a strong focus on child and community participation and feedback. 

The PSS Facilitator will receive regular training, support and supervision from the MHPSS TA, Specialist and/or relevant technical advisors from different supporting sectors.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 

  1. Contribute to rapid, quality set up of mobile and/or static safe spaces for children and adolescents 
  2. Utilize PFA skills and principles to engage with children and caregivers as and when needed to appropriately respond to signs of distress 
  3. Facilitate dynamic and inclusive recreational and creative activities for children and adolescents
  4. Gather feedback from diverse children, adolescents and caregivers on priority MHPSS needs/concerns and the types of approaches and activities they would like to participate in 
  5. Organize and deliver SCI and other interagency structured psychosocial support activities, such as “I Support My Friends,” “Parenting without Violence,” “Doing what matters in times of stress”
  6. Support the identification, participation and referral (if needed) of vulnerable or excluded children and youth
  7. Prepare visuals and materials suitable for the target group to enhance participation and understanding of activities.
  8. Organize information meetings tailored specifically for the needs of the target audience.
  9. Follow up with the attendance of beneficiaries and engage with caregivers as needed. 
  10. Utilize effective facilitation skills and youth development approach to foster peer support, creative expression and strengthened resilience of participants in activities
  11. Document and record activity outputs, learning and other information to support MEAL processes and accountability, report feedback and complaints from the community through the designated channels
  12. Ensure strict adherence to child protection principles and gender equality

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

University degree in relevant social science (i.e. Psychology, Psychological Counselling, Social Work, Education or Child Development) or relevant work experience equivalent

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • At least one year work experience in MHPSS with children and families; experience in working with migrants and refugees is an asset.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including team leading and influencing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication in Turkish asset, Arabic and/or Kurdish is desirable.
  • Capacity and willingness to be flexible in difficult working circumstances.
  • Experience of and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability.
  • Experience with refugee/marginalized communities desired.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours (i.e. evenings, weekends)
  • Commitment to and understanding of child right, Save the Children values and Child Safeguarding.

 

Position holder will be based in Gaziantep, therefore legal right to work in Türkiye is necessary at the time of application.
