                                                             Protection Assistant-Viranşehir

About Concern: Concern Worldwide is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organisation dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries. Concern has been working in Turkey since August and currently looking for a qualified Protection Assistant based in Şanlıurfa/Viranşehir.

Closely work with                              Education and Protection Officers

Contract Length:                                11 months

 

Job Purpose: The Protection Assistant will be part of the community center team based in Viranşehir (Şanlıurfa, Turkey). Under the supervision of the Team Leader, the Protection Assistant will provide tailored individual protection assistant and case management services to the refugee community, undertake outreach and household visits. S/he will also identify out of school children and support them to enrol into school. S/he will be working in Concern community center in Viranşehir and will play a key role in organizing and facilitating community based protection activities.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct identification, assessment and registration of protection cases;
  • Prepare intervention plans for protection cases following detailed assessment;
  • Provide case follow-up until cases can responsibly and appropriately be closed;
  • Distribution of in-kind items.
  • Collect and update information on services available and protection actors in Haliliye district;
  • Conduct household assessments;
  • Organize and facilitate community based protection activities in Viranşehir community center;

 

Education

  • Identify out of school children though home visits and outreach events.
  • Provide information about formal and non-formal education opportunities which are available for refugee children in Sanliurfa
  • Support out of school children to enrol into formal and non-formal education
  • Follow up with children after enrolment in school.

 

Beneficiary Accountability

  • Work with relevant colleagues to ensure that the Complaints and Response Mechanism (CRM) is functional and accessible, that feedback and complaints are welcomed and addressed;
  • Work with relevant colleagues to ensure that information about CRM, safeguarding and expected staff behaviour is disseminated among programme participants and communities;
  • Actively promote meaningful community participation and consultation at all stages of the project cycle (planning, implementation, M&E);
  • Any other tasks agreed with the management.

 

Required Qualifications, Education & Experience

  • University degree with at least 1 years’ experience in a similar position or high school diploma with at least 3 years’ experience in a similar position;
  • Strong command of spoken Arabic and/or Turkish is essential;

  • Experience implementing protection and education sector activities in Turkey
  • English language skills
  • Good organisation and reporting skills;
  • To adhere to the standards of conduct outlined in the Programme Participant Protection Policy and Concern Code of Conduct.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive cases
  • Strong communication skills
  • Positive attitude, team player, and willingness to learn;
