General Functions:

Under the overall supervision of the Programme Support Officer (PRU), and direct supervision of the Senior Project Assistant (Protection) the Project Assistant (PRU) will support the protection activities in the related area, including community mobilization, outreach, and admin related activities for the Protection team.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1.Provide support the IOM Protection teams in the related areas in ongoing operations, under supervision of the Senior Project Assistant (Protection)

2.Work closely with implementing partners, local authorities, area representatives and other stakeholders to identify areas, activities and topics for IOM’s community-based protection interventions.

3.Maintain positive relationships with beneficiaries, local authorities, and other stakeholders.

4.Identify and analyse the families/individual demands and needs through listening and dialogue, problems and nature of expressed needs (health, education, work, finance, legal etc.) and refer to appropriate colleagues and service providers.

5.Organize thematic groups of discussions in the targeted villages/neighbourhoods according to identified needs in villages/neighbourhoods and in consultation with key informants and protection teams.

6.Coordinate with the team members when referring cases for case management or externally for support outside of IOM capacities.

7.Assist in preparing materials needed for community-based protection interventions, including materials, visibility items etc

8.Prepare reports on the sessions conducted and map existing needs. Raise awareness on the services that will be provided by IOM in the locations.

9.Prepare TAs for field staff and assist in additional administrative and logistical duties as required.

10.Support the team in preparation of activity reporting on weekly and monthly basis including narrative and related activity data accuracy.

11.Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • University degree in Psychology, Social and/or Political Science, International Relations or a related field from an accredited academic institution with at least two years of relevant professional experience; or
  • Completed High school degree from an accredited academic institution, with four years of relevant professional experience.

 

Experience:

  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and other vulnerable groups
  • Knowledge of case management process, community-based protection, and psychosocial support services.
  • Prior experience working in the region on Protection work is a distinct advantage.
  • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations.
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
  • Residing or willing to reside in Adiyaman/Malatya

 

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and Turkish is required.
  • Working knowledge of Arabic is advantageous.

Only candidates residing in either the country of the duty station or from a location in a neighbouring country that is within commuting distance of the duty station will be considered. In all cases, a prerequisite for taking up the position is legal residency in the country of the duty station, or in the neighbouring country located within commuting distance, and work permit, as applicable.

This is a local position and applications from candidates for non-Turkish citizens holding a valid residence permit residing in Türkiye might be considered.
