Small Projects Istanbul is looking for a new team member for the full-time Programs Manager position. This role provides leadership and strategic direction for SPI’s programs and community services delivery in line with the community needs and desires, aligned with the organization’ mission; supporting the organization’s goals to the best extent. 

 

Small Projects Istanbul (Registered as Zeytin Ağacı Derneği) is a dynamic and growing Turkish NGO operating in Istanbul, Turkey to support those displaced by conflict in the Middle East and North Africa Region. With an international team of 12 experienced professionals and +25 volunteers, SPI's Community Center provides educational, psycho-social support and livelihood opportunities for children, youngsters and women and it creates a safe and welcoming place for displaced families to connect with one another while rebuilding their lives in Istanbul and beyond.

Background & Experience

  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in social sciences is desired

  • Minimum of 3 years of managerial experience working in NGOs/humanitarian aid/development in the field of migration and displacement 

  • Have a good command of the refugee framework in Turkey especially related to SuTP

  • Experience in strategy development and empowerment programs especially pertaining to education, protection and livelihoods targeting displaced communities with a special focus on children, youth and women

  • Experience in project management in EU and UN projects

  • Experience in team supervision, management 

  • Volunteering, volunteer management and mentorship experiences are plus


 

Main Responsibilities 

 

  • Lead SPI’s Programming department, creating new programs internally and connecting with external program providers (specifically related to Education, Psycho-Social Support, Protection and Livelihoods) including the development of the Community Center activities, in line with community needs and desires.

  • Report to the Director on the overall programs strategy,  team’ activities, developments, issues and advise on realistic objectives in relation to programming outcomes.

  • Provide guidance and supervision to the Programming Team, in the development of individual and team objectives and in devising a strategy in order to meet these objectives

  • Address problems that arise, support team members in troubleshooting and finding solutions

  • Work closely with the General Manager and Grants officer to support the fundraising goals, identification of potential donors or sources of funding and plan outreach strategies. 

  • Work closely with and provide assistance to the Grants officer in the development of new proposals, write and/or edit proposals in Turkish and English, oversee submissions.

  • Work closely with and provide guidance to the Community Relations Manager in determining the needs and desires of the beneficiary community to improve and maintain the quality and suitability of the community services design 

  • Work closely with and provide guidance to the Community Relations Manager in services delivery and implementation in line with the set objectives and deadlines

  • Outreach and point of contact with external program/partner organizations

  • Identify gaps in programs and continually review realistic options for improving service delivery 

  • Oversees allocation of resources related to programs, work closely with Grants and Finance team in the fulfillment of internal accounting processes 

  • Responsible for the planning and implementation of projects/programs M&E procedures

  • Performs regular communication with partners/donors related to project/program outcomes, carries out the required reporting

  • Attends sector meetings as organization representative, networks with local/international service providers

Excellent communication skills: 

  • Experience in working with a multicultural team

  • Skilled at active listening, providing and receiving constructive feedback, conflict resolution

  • Performs solution oriented approach

  • High proficiency in spoken and written English

  • Excellent writing skills both in English and Turkish, knowledge in Arabic language is a plus

Small Projects Istanbul (Registered in Turkey under the Turkish name “ZEYTIN AĞACI DERNEĞI”) is an independant NGO operating a Community Center in Istanbul, dedicated to helping displaced families rebuild their lives. SPI supports community development through delivering programs and activities for social cohesion, education support, and empowerment.
In order to provide livelihood opportunities to the women in the community and empower them to generate a small income to support their families, SPI has developed a Social Enterprise “Iktisadi Isletmesi” within the framework of the registered Association.
In 2016 SPI established the “Drop Earrings Not Bombs” collection, which continues to grow its international recognition and make customers happy all over the world. Then in 2017 SPI launched the brand “Muhra” as the central vehicle through which the products of the Women’s Social Enterprise are marketed to the world.
