Shafak was officially established in 10-10-2013 (registration no. 27-016-129). It was founded during the early months of the Syrian Crisis in 2011. At its core, Shafak is a grassroots NGO that was formed by Syrians for Syrians, with the intent of addressing the needs of their life with dignity, equality and humanity with a focus on sustainability and autonomy.

Shafak is an impartial, independent, non-profit NGO that exists for the express purpose of providing humanitarian services to vulnerable people regardless of political or religious affiliations and on the long run to contribute to recover and rebuilding the society on freedom, justice and equality basis.

Role Purpose

The Child Protection Officer will report to and assist the Protection Program Manager in setting up new or strengthening existing child protection programs for families and children vulnerable to abuse, exploitation, neglect and violence. she will be responsible to supervise the day to day activities of all Child Protection teams in the different locations in N. Syria.

Key areas of accountability and responsibilities:

Child Protection & Case Management process:

  • Develop Case Management tracker (case management cycle) and review all registered cases and discuss the intervention plan;
  • Technical support and engagement to set-up and implement high-quality child-protection oriented support to children at-risk or already in harmful work, in line with agreed SOPs, tools and quality benchmarks.
  • Oversee the planning and ensure smooth implementation of daily field activities in relation to child protection, FTR and case management in accordance with the standard tools and Shafak procedures;
  • Supervise and guide on a daily basis the Child Protection team leaders and Case managers in charge of the child protection activities in different locations, including: setting up clear objectives for them, and ensuring they report their daily tasks;
  • Liaise with other child protection actors working in N. Syria, Shafak education staff and any other relevant service provider on management of caseload and referrals.
  • Guide and support with reporting, referral of child protection incidents;
  • Produce case management reports on weekly and monthly basis;
  • Technical and operational support to child protection caseworkers;
  • Monitor protection issues for boys and girls;
  • Participate and attend child protection cluster and other working groups.
  • Ensure applying child safeguarding during all project activities.
  • Support the other departments in child protection mainstreaming.
  • Manage and supervise of the project work plan and lead the activities in coordination with field officer,
  • Develop the procurement plan and expenditure plan in coordination with protection program manager,
  • Ensure applying the child protection standers of operation (SoPs) in all child protection activities,
  • Develop and participate in setting the protection strategic plan.

 

 

Capacity building:

  • Train and coach Child protection staff on child protection and case management;

Other Competencies/Attributes:

•                      Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills

•                      Must adhere to set security standards

•                      Proven ability to manage competing priorities

•                      Able to solve complex problems and to exercise independent judgment Perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Social Work and Social Administration (SWSA)/Social Sciences, Development Studies, Education is an added advantage
  • 3 years of experience or more in related job of Child protection is desirable
  • Good English languages skills.
  • Keen interest and enthusiasm in working for and with children
  • Report-writing skills
