 Background:

Association of Detainees and The Missing in Sednaya Prison, aka (ADMSP), was established in 2017 as an association for survivors, victims, and their families. ADMSP seeks to uncover the truth and to achieve justice for those detained in Syria, also works to expose the fate of the missing and forcibly disappeared persons in the Sednaya Prison and Syria overall by documenting the numbers, geographic locations, date of disappearance, detention-related violations, and the alleged party responsible for the arrest of detainees and disappeared persons.

Through ADMSP’s family center, rehabilitation services focused on psychological health are delivered to survivors of torture, war, violence, or other human rights violations and conflict-related crimes.

ADMSP strives to promote recognition of the harm suffered by detainees, truth-seeking, accountability, designating the fate of the missing, and reparations for victims and survivors as asserted by international human rights and humanitarian law.

 

OBJECTIVE:

To provide physiotherapy services. The physiotherapist will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide rehabilitation through individual and group sessions and workshops to those suffering from the physical effects of torture and war trauma. The key goals of treatment are to improve functional ability, decrease pain levels, improve management of specific conditions such as incontinence, stress, poor sleep and pain, improve social participation and functioning, improve coping and outlook and improve body awareness and self-regulation, collaborate with partner organizations in the region to implement clinical services in their centers.

This position will include participating in significant training and capacity building activities so as to develop treatment skills required to address the needs of survivors of psychological trauma, emotional stress, and conflict. Physiotherapists will be guided and supervised in their activities by an expert Physiotherapist Trainer.

 

Key Performance Areas & Performance Indicators:

Clinical Service Delivery:

  • Provide appropriate physiotherapy assessment to clients throughout their episode of care at CVT in order to continuously evaluate their progress and their changing needs for intervention and establish treatment goals and plan.
  • Determine appropriate treatment techniques for war trauma and torture survivors based on solid clinical reasoning.  Interventions could include education, exercise therapy and manual therapy in the context of group work or within individual sessions.
  • Educate and advise clients and their care takers about prevention and/or self-management of their condition.
  • Responsible for learning and delivering Trauma Resilience Workshops.

Clinical Program Development:

  • Promote community awareness, understanding and engagement by providing trainings to partner organizations on self-care and team building workshops.
  • Contribute to completing the documentation and reporting of external trainings.

Clinical Coordination:

  • Consistently communicate prior to and throughout client sessions with other disciplines to supply and receive relevant information about the background and progress of clients as well as refer those who require other specific medical attention.
  • Recognize, and respect boundaries between disciplines.
  • Liaise with clinical staff from outside the organizations to help them identify children and families whose physical functioning may have been affected by war related experiences and encourage them to approach the organization for support.
  • Assist in the daily clinical operations to ensure clients are given appointments in a timely manner, group work activities and room designation is scheduled and coordinated fairly.

Self-care through support and supervision:

  • Attend regular support, debriefing, case conferences, and/or supervision meetings to ensure information and skill-sharing.
  • Set and follow through on a personal self-care schedule to avoid burnout and vicarious traumatization.
  • Recognize and seek support when needed from internal and/or external resources to address concerns of any workplace stress, signs of burnout and/or vicarious traumatization in an expedient manner.

Clinical standards:

  • Ensure that all work with clients observes organizational confidentiality policies, guidelines around protected health information are adhered to and ethical practices are observed at all times and are in accordance with organization, and WPA standards.
  • Attend regular support, debriefing, case conferences, and/or supervision meetings to ensure information and skill-sharing.
  • Attend all regularly scheduled trainings and meetings necessary for professional development and team coordination and upon request.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining professional development by keeping up to date with evidence-based practice for managing the clients.
  • Ensure that all work with clients observes organizational confidentiality policies.
  • Upholds the highest humanitarian standards, including the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) six key principles related to prevention of sexual abuse and exploitation.                                                                                                               

 

Qualifications and Experience:                                                                                                                                                 

Required education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations

  • Minimum an educational certificate in physical therapy.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Experience in handling web-based management systems.
  • Excellent Oral and written communication skills in Arabic and English is essential. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong Organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Turkish Nationality is required.

 Desired

  • Good Spoken and written Arabic.
  • Physiotherapy practicing official license
