Background:

Gülümseme ve Zeytin Yardimlaşma ve Dayanişma Derneği  GvZ (Basmeh and Zeitooneh) is a non-governmental, non-profit civil society organization that has been supporting the most marginalized, desperate, and affected people since 2014. From the beginning, GvZ believes that its role is to create ways to empower those affected by developing their skills and reviving their sense of humanity and dignity. Through its community centers, GvZ provides women, youth, and marginalized groups with various humanitarian services such as relief aid, protection, education programs, and communication with other humanitarian actors on advocating for essential issues to bring to light. To this end, GvZ strives to continue honing people's skills to participate in peacebuilding and actively advocate for a democracy that reflects a diverse and socially connected society.


2. Purpose:

The project manager will take the lead on the implementation of the peace education project implemented in Gaziantep and ensure all activities are executed in high quality and reaching the target within the project timeframe, while reporting regularly, attending coordination meetings and communicating externally and internally, being the budget holder and providing technical input and support to the team, while managing the community center and its needs, and ensuring the safety of staff and participants.


3. Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the recruitment of the project and center staff with the HR officer in coordination with the program manager.
  • Follow-up on project expenses and forecasts as he/she will be the budget holder of the project.
  • Attend regular coordination meetings with working groups to ensure proper communication especially with joint activities and targets.
  • Coordinate with support services, M&E, and communication units and departments to ensure quality and timely implementation
  • Ensure that all the staff recruited are well trained and support them on a technical level when needed in coordination with the program manager.
  • Supervise the performance of team members working with children and youth to deliver high quality peace education.
  • Establish and maintain a monthly and weekly work plan with project team which includes weekly monitoring meetings.
  • Create the schedule of the sessions for the children and youths.
  • Create and update up to date procurement plans and ensure all the materials are ordered and delivered to the center in a timely manner.
  • Create and update the work plan, risk matrix, needs assessments and other project documents based on the need of the project and changing context.
  • Collect all reports and provide a monthly report internally, and externally as frequently as needed (with one final report by the end of the project).
  • Establish and conduct meetings with local stockholders for the benefit of the program including municipalities and key persons when needed, especially in coordination with our implementing partner.
  • Assess trainings needs of the team, and identify suitable trainings conducted by international and local partners for their participation.
  • Ensure that all the staff recruited are familiar with GvZ’s Code of Conduct and protection standers.
  • Ensure quality and minimum child protection standards are implemented and respected in all activities, including the child safeguarding policy
  • Ensure that all the staff can identify at-risk cases and refer them to the protection staff in the centers of operations. 
  • Ensure that all the referral pathways and referral cases are well documented, complying with confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Ensure that all data related to the project is documented, available and always organized upon request throughout the project.
  • Organizing all the social initiatives for the children and youths (venues if needed, materials, refreshments, transportation…).
  • Managing all risks related to the community center, with clear safety and security measures in place to ensure staff and participants’ wellbeing is always prioritized.
  • Following up on center logistical needs and ensuring it is child friendly, safe, clean, and accessible at all times.
  • Sign off on time sheets, vacation request (project facilitators and center staff)

 

4. Qualifications:

  • Have a university degree in Psychology, Sociology, or Management.
  • Previous PSS project coordination
  • Social work.
  • Good communication skills both internal and external
  • Experience at least 1-3 years in the field
  • Work under pressure
  • Ability to manage a big team and a community center.
  • Knowledge of the areas of implementation
