Position:                                                           Media & Communication Coordinator

Base Location:                                                Gaziantep, with frequent field visits in and out of Turkey,

Reporting To:                                                  The MCC reports to the Country Director based in Ankara

Line Management Responsibilities:               The MCC supervises Media & Communication Officers.

Contract Duration:                                         One year with possibility of extension

Job Purpose:

Develop media and communication plans and mechanisms - in line with QC media and communication policy - for internal and external communication with various media within Turkey. Contribute to the achievement of Qatar Charity's media and communication goals through overseeing and following up all the operational plans related to his/her functions and through enhancing opportunities for media publishing. Improve the image building of Qatar Charity.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Major Tasks:

  1. Develop the media and communication plan for Turkey Country Office,
  2. Develop the TORs to manage and guide the media coverage of Qatar Charity's programs in Turkey and cross border operations through increasing the publicity, visibility and dissemination of information.
  3. Strengthen relationships with internal and external partners in media coverage and documentation according to QC standards.
  4. Strengthen the relationships with local, English and Arabic-speaking media in Turkey to promote opportunities for news publication on Qatar Charity's programs and projects.
  5. Periodic follow-up of performance indicators and preparation and submission of reports on achievement to the Media and Communication Department based in HQ in Doha.
  6. Ensure the integration of media and communication components in annual budget preparation in coordination with the relevant departments and units in the Turkey Country Office.
  7. Create and manage QC Turkey Country Office social media accounts and formulate news for publishing in the social media in compliance with QC Media & Communication policy.
  8. Follow-up and document Qatar Charity's projects and highlight them through photos, videos and success stories in cooperation with partners and media companies.
  9. Promote and support communication tools developed by QC for community engagement and collection of video testimonials.
  10. Advise the Country Director, Head of Program and other staff in the country on media, public information, event management and visibility issues.

Special Tasks:

  1. Implement the strategy of media and communication with the local and foreign press institutions to publish and cover the events and activities implemented by Turkey Country Office.
  2. Monitor, follow-up and archive all types of media published news related to the Country Office.
  3. Formulate, translate and disseminate news and press reports through the available means of communication and media (internally and externally) using local and foreign languages ​​in Turkey
  4. Collect reports and statistics on the progress of the projects being implemented by Qatar Charity in coordination with relevant departments and share them with the media in compliance with QC media policy.
  5. Formulate speeches and statements of the official spokesperson in the country office in various formal and informal events (events, activities, conferences, press releases etc).
  6. Review texts, publications, media materials and announcements related to activities and events in the country office.
  7. Establish official media accounts of the country office and feed them with appropriate contents.
  8. Highlight and document the programs and projects implemented in the country office through photos, videos and technical production.
  9. Propose creative methods that highlight the work of the Country Office in media.
  10.  Follow up and prepare the contents of the periodic publications of the country office (quarter, mid-term, annual reports, newsletters etc).
  11. Follow up all the complaints raised to the field office (press related) and refer them to the relevant departments.
  12. Arrange for press conferences and seminars. Provide guidance and talking points as requested to colleagues in the Country Office and HQ regarding on-going media requests and interview opportunities.
  13. Ensure that there is appropriate gender segregated data in all QC communications.
  14. Liaise with media counterparts in governmental and non-governmental partner agencies. Participate in the INGO Communication Groups and relevant interagency media and communication working groups to encourage information flow across agencies and to develop complementary media strategies.
  15. Ensure that QC's identity and branding have been respected – through clarity and consistency - in all media and printing materials.

Job Requirements:

  •  A bachelor's degree and/or master’s degree in Media & Communication, journalism or in any other related field.
  • At least three to five years working experience in Communication/Media Field.
  • Familiarity with the humanitarian sector, the Sustainable Development Goals, humanitarian principles, SPHERE, Do No Harm, and other international standards for emergency work;
  • Fluency in both oral and written English, Arabic and Turkish;
  • QC employees are expected to work in accordance with the Organization’s core values, aims and objectives.
