The project BRIDGE - Strengthening the Capacity of the Civil Society is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). 

BRIDGE focuses on the necessary planning, implementation, and networking skills of civil society actors for change processes at the local level. Accordingly, the overall objective is: Civil society organizations, women, and young people, as agents of change, have made better use of the remaining room to manoeuvre for social participation within Syria. One output of the project aims to improve the public discourse on development engagement at community level and to have a greater presence of development-related issues. Focus is here on women and young people and on the local media, to increase the social awareness of the target group's interests and to inspire others for more active community engagement. 

 

A. Main Activities

  • Provide overall assistance in implementation of project activities, organization of the project events and preparation of the project deliverables related to the media component
  • Assist in the preparation of results and impact data for communication purposes and reporting
  • Provide support in the preparation and development of project materials, such as component factsheets / documentation on lessons learnt and project outputs
  • Identify and write - in cooperation with the supported independent local media organizations - short success stories about local community engagement
  • Support coordination of service provider and monitor deliverables: Summarizing articles, posts, radio spots etc. written / broadcasted by BRIDGE supported partners        
  • Assist in the planning and executing of events, conferences, and workshops related to BRIDGE technical assistance initiatives
  • Manage the workflow with high discretion and sensitivity to all matters
  • Sustain consistent quality in service deliverables and ensure high-quality standards of all internal and external communications, advising on procedure improvements

 

B. Required qualifications, competencies and experience

 

Education/Qualifications

  • University degree (Bachelor or Master) in Journalism, Media, Communications or other relevant field

 

Professional experience

  • Minimum of 3 years work experience, including 2 years of work experience in working with media/journalism + civil society/ national/ international non-profit organisations (preferable in the area of project management, partnership-building, and communications)
  • Text editing skills and the ability to present complex contexts in easy-to-understand language in a clear and target-group appropriate manner
  • Experience in conference management, facilitation of (interactive), participatory events 

 

Other knowledge, additional competencies

  • Creativity in layouting & presentation of project information and project data
  • Experienced in use of Excel, Power Point and Power Bi-advanced functions, other Microsoft office suite products
  • Interest and ability to flexibly learn and adapt to new concepts
  • Highly collaborative, team player and experienced to work in an international multicultural team with loyalty, reliability, and tolerance
  • High motivation and ability to work independently and meet deadlines without compromising the quality of outputs
  • Demonstrates openness to change and ability to manage complexities
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Arabic, good knowledge of Turkish
