Dünya Doktorları Dernegi (DDD)/Mececins du Monde Turkey (MDM-T)  is a Turkish based humanitarian non-governmental organisation that facilitates access to healthcare for populations affected by armed conflict, violence, natural disasters, disease, famine, poverty and exclusion.

Our organization collaborates with partners and key stakeholders to implement projects that facilitate access to primary and secondary-level healthcare services to respond to the medical needs of displaced population.

DDD is the 16th member of the Doctors of the World International Network that is committed to meeting the health needs of vulnerable people globally.

Mission

Since 2015, DDD implements programs in both Turkey and Syria providing refugee and IDP communities with free access to healthcare services. DDD works with a range of humanitarian professionals and technical experts to provide Primary Healthcare (PHC), Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)services as well as sexual and reproductive health (SRH).

Since the beginning of the Syria and Iraqi crises, Turkey has become host to over 3 million refugees, migrants and asylum seekers which led to an increasing demand for health services. In this context, DDD’s intervention aims to assist local public health systems in providing and improving access to health and health related services to vulnerable populations among refugees and migrants in Turkey, specifically in Hatay, Izmir and Istanbul. In Syria, DDD runs health facilities in Idlib and Afrin provinces to deliver health-related services to IDPs.

Based in Izmir with regular visits to Istanbul and Antakya, the internship medical officer will be directly supervised by the medical coordinator and Izmir Field Coordinator .

Function Details

Technical Support and Supervision

• Participate in the implementation of the primary health care package in the project locations following Turkish health regulations.
• To provide a technical support for the medical teams by applying medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention.
• Ensure quality of the services provided in the supported structures corresponds to DDD standards and practice;
• Supervision of the DDD medical teams providing health care services in the areas of intervention.
• Provide inputs to Medical Coordinator in the development of the above areas of priority, as per DDD strategic directions.
• In collaboration with the Nurse and midwife to provide regular health education to patients
• To ensure a proper medical waste management
• Assess through a supervision checklist the quality of care of DDD supported facilities and staff.
• Assist in the selection of drugs and medical equipment in coordination with the Medical Coordinator and Pharmacist;
• To inform the Medical Coordinator about any relevant medical issues, HR issues, reporting issues.

Training and Capacity Building

• Propose and develop strategy of capacity enhancement of the medical team.
• Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care.
• Educate medical and non-medical staff in medical matters where relevant.

Reporting

• Prepare reports, monitor and evaluate activities as per DDD commitments and plans.
• Contribute to context update and displacement tracking.
• Provide regular reporting on activities to Line-Manager upon his/her solicitation;
• Provide your line-manager with a Handover Report at the end of contract.
• Any other related DDD tasks as assigned by supervisor/line manager.

Expected profile

Education/Qualification

• Medical doctor degree/intern ; preferably eligible to practice medicine in Turkey.

Professional experience

• 1-2 years of clinical practice as a general practitioner.
