Citizens Assembly is looking for a skilled Cultural Mediator Supervisor to help us provide quality service to our beneficiaries. This position is a great opportunity for you to gain experience in the humanitarian sector and develop your skills. You will also be an important member of our team focusing on migrants who has been ill-treated to help them heal both psychological and physical.

You will be working in Nefes center located in Fatih and  you will be contributing to the provision of quality cultural mediation services in the project  by supervising a team of cultural mediators according to CA values, standards and procedures in order to foster the removal of linguistic and cultural barriers and improve the quality of and access to quality health care and socio/legal services.

Your tasks as Cultural Mediator Supervisor includes:

  • Participate in all the HR associated processes (need assessment, recruitment, evaluation) of the CMs  
  • Supervise the CMs in terms of: planning and organizing; data collection and reporting of CM related activities or activities CMs are involved
  • Ensure support of the CMs is provided (directly and in collaboration with concerned manager/referent) on specific aspect such as: approach and dynamic in the trialogue communication mediator-patient-care provider; prevention and management of possible misunderstandings, communicative blocks, tension; interpretation; PFA; medical topics/glossary; legal orientation; collection of testimonies; emotional support
  • Implement trainings, induction and info sessions for all CMs, other colleagues and beneficiaries in collaboration with the relevant referent/activity managers (PMR, MHAM, HAO, CMHW, MAM)
  • Ensure proper collaboration, communication and information sharing between the CMs and the different activities/department
  • Perform CM activities when required and/or language skills match the needs

·         Ensuring the day-to-day implementation of assigned CM activities at project level, including (but not limited to) managing dynamics in the trilogies communication between mediator, patient, secretary and care provider; preventing and managing possible misunderstandings, communicative blocks and tension.

  • Works closely with any of the practitioners to arrange and organize Cultural Mediators attendance to different sessions systematically
  • Follow-up and optimize the sessions of CMs
  • Supports on creating a trust environment with the beneficiary and the center staff and supports on reading the beneficiary agenda.
  • Ensures that the practitioner, with who creates a tandem, is aware of cultural nuances when dealing with beneficiaries and counterparts to ensure a good delivery of the service provided.
  • Educating the practitioner on effective methods of culturally sensitive communication and informing them about lo-cal customs, tradition, etc. that will help in better service delivery and gaining the trust with the beneficiary.
  • Closely monitor CM psycho-social support mechanism to develop necessary tools for support
  • Participates in the case discussions and MDT meetings for providing inputs and shares observation
  • Facilitates communication through interpretation during reception, group activities and phone calls.
  • Translate written texts including documents, short stories etc. when needed.
  • Assists in translating training and materials in given languages.
  • Attends supervision and training sessions to reflect on CM practices and develop capacity
  • Organize info sessions targeting our beneficiaries and other colleagues to improve cultural awareness

 

Requirements    

  • We are looking for a dedicated person who has the right personality and wants to help our beneficiaries gain a better life. We do expect our candidates to have the following requirements.
  • Essential secondary education. Desirable degree in social sciences, social communication or teaching
  • Training in interpretation or intercultural mediation is an asset.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in related position and in migration/refugees programs
  • Proficiency for English
  • Desirable one of the languages spoken by the beneficiaries (Arabic, Dari/Farsi, Pashto, etc…)
  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
  • Strong mental mindset

 

We offer

  • Full time position (Monday to Friday from 09:00-18:00)
  • 6 month contract (Renewable)
  • Location: Istanbul (Possibility of working remotely)
