JOB ADVERTISEMENT – Communications Officer x2 - Gaziantep and Hatay

CHILD SAFEGUARDING: 

Level 3 - the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

 

ROLE PURPOSE:  

The Communications Officer supports the creation and delivery of vital information and communication products of our program and projects for Save the Children International Türkiye Country Office (TCO) as a part of the emergency response. The Communications Officers will be based in either the Area Office in Hatay or Gaziantep

She/he will prepare communication outputs for a range of different formats including mass, online, print and social media platforms. The Communications Officer identify stories to pitch for SCI channels as well as external media outlets, and engage with TCO team members, partners and beneficiaries for the coordination and support for the development and publication of outputs while supporting the Advocacy, Communications and Media Manager with ad hoc tasks.

Reports to: Advocacy, Campaigns, Communications and Media Manager with matrix management from Area Manager

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 

Programme Support

  • Collaborate with Türkiye Country Office team members to ensure core messaging is consistent with advocacy and programme strategies while exploring new opportunities and trends to promote activities
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of social media plans and campaigns for major communication projects and events
  • Provide regular updates of situation in the field adequate for different communication channels internally and externally (Blog, Twitter, Facebook, Website, newsletters, etc.)
  • Provide content and support management of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other TCO Social Media Pages
  • Help draft web stories, blogs, and other written material
  • Produce V-LOGs from staff in Area Offices
  • Develop and promote digital content across different platforms; identifying programme and project priorities, key moments and events while taking into consideration of different target audiences
  • Participate in the conceptualisation and implementation of earthquake emergency response messaging
  • Produce multimedia content, including infographics, videos, photos etc. to support advocacy and visibility of Save the Children TCO 
  • Interview colleagues and partners for the development of written, visual and audio content
  • Produce compelling photographs to accompany case studies and other communication materials produced and/or support project teams to coordinate this through in house or external photographers or video producers for the production of high-quality communication materials
  • Produce accurate, clear and consistent information and communication outputs relating to Save the Children TCO programs and projects – including brochures, Q&A’s and factsheets.
  • Support in storyboarding and planning for upcoming media engagements with key projects
  • Assist in the maintenance of TCO communications contacts databases, including media list
  • Help to facilitate media activities such as requests for quotes or interviews (ensuring spokespeople are adequately briefed) or journalists visits to programmes. Help to identify opportunities within our response activities or the external environment for media activities.
  • Ensure signing-off procedures are fully respected and implemented for all communication materials produced
  • Ensure all internal policies, especially Safeguarding policies are adhered to throughout the development and publication of communications outputs

General

  • Deliver results in line with the terms of reference agreed in advance – to do this in a way which maintains the reputation of the TCO.
  • Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • To perform such other responsibilities as agreed with line management.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES 

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, International Relations, Marketing or other relevant fields
  • 1 year experience and interest in communications, social media management, multimedia design and other relevant fields
  • Fluency in English
  • Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Turkish or Arabic for a wide range of different audiences including donors, journalists and the general public
  • Experience creating media products such as press releases
  • Ability to work independently and remotely
  • Enthusiasm and desire to work in NGO / development sector
  • Flexibility, creativity and can-do attitude
  • Ability to think outside of the box, follow trends and be creative
  • Computer skills (MS Office, social media platforms, design software, etc.)
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children. In particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support

Desirable

  • Experience using Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe, InDesign, Canva and/or other digital design tools
  • Knowledge of the Turkish or Arabic languages will be considered assets

Position holder will be based in Gaziantep or Hatay, therefore legal right to work in Türkiye is necessary at the time of application.
