Arabic Translator 

Job Title: Arabic Translator 

Reports To: Project Coordinator(s) / Translator Team Coordinator / Social Worker(s)

Country/Location: İstanbul / Turkey

Job Summary

Under the overall supervision of the Project Coordinator(s) and direct supervision of the Translator Team Coordinator and Social Worker(s), the incumbent will be responsible for providing support in project implementation, reporting and translation on the projects providing services for refugees.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Translation/Cultural Mediation

• Provide simultaneous translation in awareness-raising seminars
• Provide simultaneous translation during the file openings & follow-up communication with beneficiaries
• In coordination with the Translator Team Coordinator; accompany and provide translation services to the beneficiaries and the project team during activities in project locations

SEVKAR Information Center & Reception

• Support the daily activities of the Information Center and Reception room (e.g. answer the telephone, notify Social Workers of the beneficiaries applying for support during office hours)
• Keep a record of all calls and beneficiary visits.
• Identify the types of beneficiary requests (e.g. health, financial support, legal counseling, referrals, information) and notify the relevant Social Worker of the request within the bounds of confidentiality
• Organize the interviews with beneficiaries in coordination with the relevant Social Worker and the Coordinator.
• Inform the relevant Social Worker of any changes and updates on beneficiary files
• Ensure the continued availability of informative tools and keep records at the Info Center & Reception Room
• Attend the internal team coordination meetings
• Where necessary, assist with the planning, organization, dissemination and announcement activities.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in education, philology, social sciences, child development or relevant fields)
• Preferably minimum 2 years of work experience (NGO experience is a plus)
• Excellent command of Arabic, as well as either Turkish or English, is required.
• Proven analytical and organizational skills
• Proven computer literacy
• Preferably experience in liaising with migrant communities and vulnerable groups
• Proven good communicational, analytical thinking and mediation skills
